With National Crime Prevention Month coming to a close and Halloween
just around the corner, Logitech (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today
announced a collaboration with CrimeReports.com that will enable the
registration of Logitech® Alert™ digital video security cameras within
its new Neighborhood Central crime prevention service. Logitech Alert is
the easy-to-setup, easy-to-use, complete HD digital video security
system that lets you keep an eye on what matters most anytime, anywhere,
on your PC or smartphone. Neighborhood Central – introduced as a beta in
August by the leading provider of online crime mapping, CrimeReports.com
– is a free, online service that seamlessly connects community members
and law enforcement in an effort to help prevent and decrease crime.
Neighborhood Central leverages a hyper-local, social approach to
community involvement – connecting community groups, businesses, and law
enforcement through platforms such as Facebook® and Twitter™, as well as
community outreach and crime prevention tools such as Logitech
Alert. Through Neighborhood Central you can communicate with friends
and neighbors, organize and chat with neighborhood groups, share
information directly with other residents, view incident-level crime
information in near real time, combine resources with a map that
indicates the location of other Logitech Alert systems, and communicate
with local law enforcement. This is the first phase of an ongoing
collaboration that is expected to bring about further integration
between Logitech Alert and Neighborhood Central.
More than 1,000 communities nationwide are already participating in
CrimeReports, and San Jose, Calif., is one of the first cities to
support the use of Neighborhood Central and Logitech Alert for both its
police department and residents.
“We are excited to be the first law enforcement agency to support this
exciting new technology, which allows community members to participate
in proactive public safety at whatever level they choose,” said Rob
Davis, chief of police, San Jose, Calif. “Vigilant community members are
one of our most important and effective allies in preventing and
fighting crime. By applying these innovative uses of technology from
CrimeReports.com and Logitech, San Jose's residents will be able to work
with law enforcement officers and with one another to share information
in the online and social spaces they use already each day in a quick,
easy and effective manner.”
“As part of our ongoing effort to bring HD video to anyone, anywhere,
Logitech is excited to bring HD video security to Neighborhood Central
with Logitech Alert, and give residents a video security solution that
truly brings the ‘watch’ aspect to Neighborhood Watch,” said Eric Kintz,
vice president and general manager of Logitech’s video business. “With
the emergence of community-based security, we’re thrilled to be part of
a collaboration between law enforcement and private citizens to fight
crime.”
Whether it’s looking in on the house while traveling, checking in on the
kids in the front yard or keeping an eye on your small business, the
Logitech Alert™ 750i Master System and the weatherproof Logitech Alert™
750e Outdoor Master System with night-vision let you be there when
you’re not, by providing a complete system to help monitor your home and
neighborhood. Now you can register your Logitech Alert indoor or outdoor
cameras on Neighborhood Central in an effort to help your local
community and law enforcement reduce crime.
“Simple-to-use technologies such as Neighborhood Central and Logitech
Alert help give every individual the ability to make a positive impact
on their community,” said Greg Whisenant, founder and chief executive
officer of CrimeReports. “By bringing video security capabilities to
Neighborhood Central, we’re providing community members and law
enforcement with an even greater opportunity to improve the communities
in which they reside and work.”
Unlike grainy surveillance video footage that most people have seen on
the nightly news, Logitech Alert cameras captures high-definition 720p
video and features a 130-degree wide-angle lens, making it easier for
you to recognize the faces of potential intruders or the license plates
of suspicious vehicles. The Logitech Alert 750e and 700e also feature
IP55-certified (International Protection Rating), weatherproof outdoor
cameras with powerful HD night-vision, giving you the ability to monitor
your home in complete darkness regardless of weather conditions.
The Logitech Alert master systems come with a smart HD camera, powerful
PC and Web software, and free remote viewing on a PC or Mac® computer or
smartphone – allowing you to watch live video, archive recorded video on
your PC and review the recordings captured by your camera.
